Somewhere between choosing the venue, managing the budget, coordinating vendors, and making decisions about every little detail, wedding planning can become all-consuming.
Conversations that once revolved around your future together suddenly revolve around flowers, guest lists, and seating charts. Date nights turn into planning meetings, and what should be an exciting season can become a source of stress, tension, and exhaustion.
Before you realize it, you’re planning a wedding together but barely making time for each other.
Don’t let the process of preparing for your wedding distract you from the person you’re preparing to marry.
Remember Why You Started
It’s easy to get caught up in creating the perfect wedding. But the wedding is one day. The marriage is the life you’re choosing to build together.
When the planning becomes overwhelming, take a step back and reconnect with your why. Remember the conversations, experiences, and moments that brought you to this decision. Talk about your dreams for the future, not just the details of the day.
And most importantly, make time for each other that has absolutely nothing to do with wedding planning.
Go on a date. Laugh together. Put the spreadsheets away for an evening. Check in with each other emotionally, especially when the pressure starts to build.
You don’t have to agree on every wedding decision, but you should continue to make each other feel heard, supported, and loved throughout the process.
The Wedding Is the Beginning, Not the Destination
Your wedding day will come and go. The decorations will be taken down, the music will stop, and the guests will go home.
What remains is the person standing beside you.
So, as you plan your wedding, remember to nurture the relationship at the center of it all. Don’t become so focused on creating a beautiful day that you forget to build a beautiful life together.
The goal isn’t just to make it to your wedding day. It’s to arrive there still connected to the person you fell in love with.
XOXO,
Tiff
